Do you know a local leader who has changed lives and transformed communities? If so, consider nominating him or her for a Groundbreaker Award! In April 2011, BHC will honor its third class of Groundbreakers award recipients at its annual Groundbreakers celebration. Nominations are being accepted in four categories:

Community Revitalizer – Nominees for this award should be leaders of development or planning initiatives that have significantly enhanced communities by providing funding and/or intentional design for innovative community revival.

Creative Collaborator – Nominees for this award should be leaders who initiate, shepherd, and nuture collaborative efforts of various agencies, organizations, and businesses to enhance the quality of life and delivery of services within communities.

Changer of Lives – Nominees for this award should be leaders who harness their own unique exeriences, education, creativity, and resources to develop and foster innovative programs and initiatives that provide capacity building opportunities for community members.

Henry David Thoreau Environmental Conservator – Nominees for this award should be leaders who invoke environmentally sound design when developing infrastructural change in a community and/or cultivate environmental consciousness through green programs and initiatives that engage and educate community members.

Deadline for submitting nominations is January 7, 2011. Award recipients will be determined by a selection committee at the University of Richmond’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies.
Groundbreakers will take place on April 7, 2011 at Beckstoffer’s Mill on Church Hill – the future site of a mixed-use, mixed-income community. Stay tuned for more information about the event!
