Need Help Renovating a Home?

BHC’s Center for Neighborhood Revitalization and Storefront for Community Design are co-sponsoring a workshop that will help you hire and work with the right contractor for your next renovation project.  A Renovation Contractor can make the process easier by:

  • Working with owner’s architect
  • Filing all permits – including any applicable tax abatement incentives
  • Having working knowledge of all local building codes
  • Scheduling and managing sub-contractors
  • Scheduling and managing any required fine craftsmen
  • Scheduling and managing required inspections
  • Scheduling and coordinating with local utility installation
  • Alerting owner to any possible hazardous materials, i.e. lead, radon, asbestos, and properly abate any that might be found
  • Working with any historic tax credit consultants
  • Working with any architectural guidelines if the project is governed by an architectural review board – Note:  Richmond has 15 multiple property, and 29 individual Old & Historic Districts
  • Making certain all materials are appropriate to the project
  • Working within a specified budget

In short, from permitting to certificate of occupancy, the Renovation Contractor will RUN THE JOB!

The workshop will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21 at the Storefront for Community Design (1001 N. 25th Street, Richmond, VA).  More information is available in the flyer below.  If you have questions, please contact David Herring at 804-644-0546 x37.
