At BHC, ours is a holistic, community-wide commitment that delivers services to families and individuals that help them succeed and encourage personal potential in real and everyday ways. These services are free and voluntary, and bring real change for the better to once struggling neighborhoods.
BHC-provided property management, financial assistance and social support services strengthen the foundation of each of our communities. Our commitment is continuous. In effect, we become permanent residents of the communities we and our partners help revitalize. These critical services are supported by our Annual Fund. Your donation is key to making this possible.
“You (BHC) are positively impacting and shaping the lives of so many people… not only the children you work with regularly, but their families as well. I could not have asked for a better group of people to entrust my babies with.” – Winchester Greens resident
The social services we provide vary depending on each community’s needs. Our youth services have proven outcomes in preventing violence and crime, and improving performance in school. Adult services, such as financial education and vocational training, increase earning potential for families and contribute to their economic prosperity. Wellness programs help seniors stay active and healthy as they age in place in our communities.
More than 42% of BHC’s resident households are seniors age 55 and older. BHC has seven communities for these active adults with low-to-moderate income, each with staffed community social workers and geriatric specialists on-site. Health screenings enable residents to manage and reduce the effects of chronic conditions. Exercise classes provide entertaining ways for residents to get moving, while nutrition classes promote healthy eating decisions. Social activities coordinated by BHC’s social workers help residents establish relationships with each other. All of these services improve the quality of life for senior residents.
“As seniors we feel comfortable, safe and secure. Our social worker and nurse provide so much to keep us aware of our health problems and needs, and assist the residents to make sure they have programs available to help them throughout the year.” – Carter Woods resident
