Monique Johnson is Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), with responsibility for improving processes and gaining efficiencies in the company’s operations. Prior to joining BHC, she was a Senior Loan Officer for Virginia Community Capital (VCC) and served on the Board of Directors of BHC and BHCM. In her previous careers, Monique has worked as a senior community housing officer with VHDA; as the director of real estate development at Highland Park Community Development Corporation; and as a senior project manager at the Better Housing Coalition.
Governor Ralph Northam appointed Monique to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Board of Housing and Community Development in 2020. Among her other accolades, Monique was inducted into the VCU School of Business Real Estate Circle of Excellence in 2018. She was awarded a Marshall Memorial Fellowship through the German Marshall Fund; and recognized by Style Weekly as one of the “Top 40 Under 40” and as a “Young Leader in Affordable Housing” by Affordable Housing Finance Magazine. She currently serves on the University of Virginia Richmond Ridley Scholarship Board, the Virginia Small Business Financing Authority Board and other statewide committees designed to strengthen the community development infrastructure. Monique is an adjunct professor of real estate in the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business. She earned her PhD in Public Policy and Administration from VCU, an MBA from the University of Richmond and a BS in civil engineering from the University of Virginia.
