Better Housing Coalition Honored at 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Community Leaders Celebration
RICHMOND, Va. — The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Leaders Celebration once again brought together leaders, organizations, families, and civic partners to honor the legacy of Dr. King and the ongoing work for equity, justice, and opportunity across Virginia. The event was featured in a recent video highlighting the ceremony’s key moments and award presentations.
Among this year’s distinguished honorees was the Better Housing Coalition (BHC), recognized for its impactful work in expanding affordable housing and community stability throughout the Richmond area. BHC’s inclusion stands alongside other awardees celebrated for advancing education, civil rights, and social justice in service to Dr. King’s vision.
Held at Virginia Union University, the celebration featured remarks from university leaders, community partners, and public officials who reflected on Dr. King’s enduring influence. Awards were presented to individuals and organizations that have demonstrated a sustained commitment to improving lives and building stronger, more inclusive communities.
The recognition of BHC at this event underscores its role not just in housing development but also in fostering community empowerment, civic engagement, and social equity — core principles of the civil rights movement honored during the celebration.
