Founders’ Scholarship Program

Image: Carter McDowell with Scholarship PosterThe BHC Founders’ Scholarship Fund was established in 2015 at our 25th Anniversary event in honor of BHC co-founders Mary Tyler McClenahan and Carter McDowell. The fund provides financial assistance to adult residents of BHC’s rental communities seeking higher education.

Church Hill Initiative

Image: Homes on N. 26th Street, Church HillThanks to the support of our individual, foundation, corporate and government investors, the Better Housing Coalition has invested a total of $45 million over the past 20 years to support revitalization efforts in historic Church Hill by reducing blight, attracting private investment and increasing the stock of affordable housing options in the community.

The Possibilities Project

Possibilities Project ribbon cutting imageThe Possibilities Project is the result of a partnership between Better Housing Coalition and Children’s Home Society with the goal to empower youth ages 18 to 25 who have aged out of Virginia foster care. The project provides safe, stable housing, trauma-informed therapeutic counseling, and connections to networks that build permanent connections with adults to offer a lifetime of support and guidance.
