This week, June 4-11, we are joining NeighborWorks America network organizations around the country to celebrate the successes of communities and how NeighborWorks and residents work together to empower people to enhance their lives. The services BHC provides have an even greater impact because we are part of the NeighborWorks network, an elite group of more than 240 independent housing nonprofits and community development organizations. Being part of the network means that Better Housing Coalition can learn from our peers across the country, share our experiences, develop new strategies, and benefit from the financial support, training, and other resources that come from NeighborWorks America.
In 1988, President Ronald Regan signed an official document proclaiming the first week in June to be NeighborsWorks Week with these inspiring words:
Socially, culturally, economically, spiritually, and in so many ways, our neighborhoods tell the American story of family, faith, and freedom. The motto E pluribus unum, or “Out of many, one,” is an appropriate description of our myriad neighborhoods and their residents. We all love and cherish this blessed land of liberty; therefore, let us join together as partners and neighbors to enrich it, each other, and every one of our neighborhoods with all of the strengths our many heritages provide us. That is something for us to reflect upon, and observance of National NHS-NeighborWorks Week prevents a fine opportunity for reflection and action in our communities.
Socially, culturally, economically, spiritually, and in so many ways, our neighborhoods tell the American story of family, faith, and freedom. – President Ronald Regan
BHC’s work, compounded with other NeighborWorks network organizations in Virginia is making a difference for all residents of the Commonwealth. In fiscal year 2021 Virginia’s network organizations provided 14,404 housing and counseling services; created 1,306 jobs; created 58 new homeowners; and constructed, acquired and preserved 12,176 rental homes. You can see the full impact of Virginia’s NeighborWorks network HERE.
NeighborWorks America believes that every community in America should be a place of opportunity for its residents. BHC shares that commitment for the Greater Richmond Region and we appreciate your support of our mission.
