Greta Harris Honored with Richmond Humanitarian Award

The Better Housing Coalition (BHC) is proud to share that President and CEO Greta J. Harris was honored at the 63rd annual Richmond Humanitarian Awards Dinner on October 28, 2025, hosted by the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities (VCIC). The annual awards recognized individuals whose leadership and service advanced understanding, inclusion, and respect throughout the Greater Richmond region.

For more than two decades, Greta has dedicated her career to expanding access to quality housing and opportunity. She has helped shape and finance hundreds of millions of dollars in community development projects that have revitalized neighborhoods, created pathways to stability for working families, and strengthened the economic fabric of the regions she’s served. Her lifelong commitment to transforming communities through connection and opportunity embodies VCIC’s mission to bring people together and build places where everyone belongs.

Since 2013, Greta’s leadership has reshaped not only the scale of BHC’s work but its reach into the hearts of communities. Today, more than 1,800 households across 20 neighborhoods have a place to call home because of that vision. Under her direction, BHC’s approach has grown deeper by pairing housing with programs that nurture learning, health, and economic mobility.

“Inclusion is not just about fairness; it’s about building stronger communities and a stronger Commonwealth,” said Harris.

During her acceptance remarks, Harris reflected, “Tonight reminds us that our work—whether in housing, education, business, or civic life—is to build bridges, not barriers. To see in one another not our differences, but our common dignity.”

BHC extends heartfelt congratulations to Greta and all 2025 VCIC honorees for their dedication to building a more inclusive and connected Richmond.
