As an employee of Better Housing Coalition, I had a ‘feel good’ moment while leaving the Jade Garden restaurant at the front of Winchester Greens. I turned the corner and saw two senior residents from Market Square III in their wheelchairs making their way to the Family Dollar next door. I thought, “What a convenience it is for these women to have the freedom to leave their homes and go to the store to pick up their essentials in one beautiful community. Then I recognized the daughter – who is mildly disabled – following behind them; I thought about how comforting it must be for the mother to have her daughter providing care for her while living in the same apartment. I looked across the walk and saw two more women getting in a little outdoor exercise with their walkers. As I drove away, I saw another resident walking his dog in front of the community. It was exciting for me to see life, convenience, caring, vibrancy, and independence in one community. I smiled and thought, “This is what we are all about.”
